Website Maintenance – Road Forward Begins

I’ve not been happy with the theme of my site for a while now and finally I get some time to change this.  If you’re visiting over the weekend you may notice the following: 404 Error – Not Found 500 Error – Server Error Site looking bare just text and pictures If you do happen to bump into any of the above give it 5 minutes or so and hit refresh :).  Everything will be eventually be fine. Why am I telling you this? The last time I was doing things with my site I was bombarded via twitter and email from nice people saying “hey what’s up with your […]

Where I am at Over the course of the following months I am hoping to commit a little more time to my blog covering the following topics : technology, programming, photography, gaming, fitness and life in general. With this in mind I am making positive steps to make my site faster and more accessible.  Did you notice the http to https change?  Seems some social counters take a while to update with this change, Facebook come on…. I was hoping that this theme would last longer than the previous one but we’re here again. This comes down to speed and accessibility.  As I write this post my website currently runs a […]

Website Maintenance and face lift

With the site getting more and more popular I’ve noticed that my site could do with a bit of a make over that will make peoples visits a much better experience.  Technology as it does moves on at a great pace and it’s time to catch up.  This theme has served me well over the last 18 months but trying to maintain improvements is just far too time consuming and updates to the theme may it be support requests or feature requests haven’t been happening. Over the next couple of weeks I plan on updating this site so the following improvements are made: To use CloudFlare SSL by default. Mobile friendly. […]

JetPack contact form spam

It’s great that people wordwide have created a free blogging platform in the name of WordPress and it’s even better that authors are taking time out to write free plugins and even themes.  I’d like to talk about the plugin JetPack.  I use JetPack, nearly everyone I know uses JetPack as it’s packed full of features that can enhance any kind of blog from a readers point of view or an administrators. This post comes from where a couple of releases ago they introduced the option to add a “contact form” into a page.  Before this other plugins were used to create such functionality, good plugins with lots of options. This is […]

4 very simple visual enhancements with CSS

This post is really just an off spring from effects I have seen while I was looking at WordPress themes for my site. Lets say curiosity got the better of me and more than likely other posts like this will appear. Quotes for today’s post come from Albert Einstein. Drop cap Using 2 CSS3 selectors first-child and first-letter we can create a nice looking effect to kick off a sentence or if needed a header. Example: Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning. Code: p:first-child:first-letter { color:#f1001c;font-size:100px; line-height:80px;margin-right:5px; } You could take it a step further and add in a […]

Website update – New theme

Last year I wrote a post about how my site needs a face lift as it seemed very boring. Just after that post I bought a theme call Confidence from Theme Forest : A couple of months ago I had a couple of questions for the author only to discover the theme had been pulled from Theme Forest. I am not sure if it was the author or staff that pulled the theme but would seem the Author got paid and Theme Forest got paid but blog owners like myself lose money buying a very short lived theme that had so many problems. This highlights an obvious flaw but having only […]
